WAEC Will not be Adopting Computer Based Test for Now

students-500x250The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said that it has no intention of adopting the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode fully for now, given the variables involved in conducting its examinations.
WAEC’s Head of National Office (HNO), Dr Charles Eguridu, told newsmen in Lagos that it would not be possible to implement the CBT mode being demanded by some people for now.

According to Eguridu, those making the call are ignorant of the socioeconomic variables that are necessary for the adoption of the CBT for WAEC examinations.

He said: “WAEC examinations involve the use of multiple choice questions, essay and practical, in which case we test various domains of learning. (more…)

FCT Schools Get Digital Libraries Courtesy MTN

Presenting the e-library infrastructure, which was made up of computers loaded with software to the Principal of the Junior Secondary School, Gwagwalada, Josephine Bola Olakpepa, MTN’s General Manager, Regional Operations (North), Adekunle Adebiyi, explained that the infrastructure was donated to the selected schools to enable their students have access to books to aid their learning capability.

He noted that the donation of the digital libraries was to commemorate MTN’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of giving back to the societies where it operates, adding that equipment and other educational learning materials would be given out to promote learning. (more…)

UNIPORT PRODUCES 41 FIRST CLASS GRADUATES

educationForty-one graduates of the University of Port Harcourt will receive the prestigious First Class grade at the institution’s 30th convocation holding on Saturday, June 13. The development is different from the university’s 29th convocation where only 20 graduates bagged First Class (Honours) degrees.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Joseph Ajienka, who disclosed this on Monday, June 8, while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, said 10 of the First Class graduates were from the Faculty of Humanities, others who graduated with First Class grade were from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Education, Management Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Natural and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and the School of Science Laboratory Technology. libraryxStudents of Archdeacon Adelaja Senior High School, Bariga, and Community Senior High School, Ketu,in Lagos State had reasons to smile recently as Western Union Foundation in collaboration with the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Skye Bank, First Bank, Ecobank, GTBank and Diamond Bank donated a hi-tech library project valued at N19.39 million or $98,500 to the schools. The project which was initiated by Gabasawa Women and Children Initiative, a non-governmental organization, had the schools refurbished and equipped to standard.

389 Imo Poly Students Get the Boot Over Exam Malprractises

Imo-State-PolytechnicThe authorities of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, has expelled 389 students over their involvement in examination malpractice and admission racketeering.
According to the rector of the institution, Rev. Fr. Wence Madu,some of the affected students engaged in examination malpractice, some did not enter the school through the right way while some others failed to abide by the institution’s rules and regulations.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri on Wednesday, June 10, the rector maintained that measures have been put in place to fish out all those who entered the institution through the backdoor, stressing that anyone caught will be shown the way out. (more…)

NECO TO INTRODUCE COMPUTER-BASED-TEST IN SUBSEQUENT EXAMS
